People watching

I took this picture at a street festival in Adam’s Morgan at a place called Madam’s Organ. I like attending public festivals because they let you truly soak up the local life. Washington D.C. has events like this sprinkled all over the city and its suburbs, and I always make it a point to enjoy some kind of event, market or community gathering while I’m in town visiting my old stomping grounds. I like this photo because it stops time and shows such an interesting slice of life. The window stools are front row seats for a live show of the vibrant street festival beyond. The man in the foreground is settled in for a drink while the sun streams through the open windows into the darkly lit pub. He sits while the woman beside him glances at the man perched at the window staring out beyond. I’ll bet she wonders what adventures he’s observing, and is tossing around the idea of going to the window herself.
